The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) is responsible for the organization and coordination of the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) of the Union which deals mainly with ICT-focused development policies, strategies and programmes, as well as technical cooperation activities, to promote digital inclusion and drive digital transformation at community, country and regional levels. To effectively and efficiently serve the needs of ITU members, BDT is organized into four functional areas:
  • Office of the Deputy to the Director and Field Operations Coordination Department
  • Partnerships for Digital Development Department
  • Digital Networks & Society Department
  • Digital Knowledge Hub Department

  •  Duties / Responsibilities
  • Research policy and strategy issues related to the development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) sector in Europe
  • Produce presentations, briefings, background papers to support coordination function of the unit
  • Support the organization of the ITU events, including coordination meetings, trainings, workshops, webinars. This activity will include, engaging with external partners to coordinate content, speakers, follow up actions and logistics before, during and after the event.
  • Support ITU internal coordination mechanisms related with the previous activities. This activity includes liaising with staff across the organization to produce content, coordinate communication activities and hold internal meetings to define strategies and plan implementation.
  • Support to the definition of the communication strategy for the European coordination unit. This activity includes the elaboration of stories for external and internal ITU official communication channels (e.g. pieces for corporate blog, twitter account, etc.)
  •  Competencies
    Experience in conducting research and preparing publications will be valued.
    Examples of texts, as well as a written assignment, will be requested during the interview process.
    Advance use of ICT tools and interest for the ICT sector will be valued during the selection process.
    Qualifications required
    University degree in telecommunications, ICTs, business administration, communications, or international development studies. Other degrees may be considered providing that the candidate has taken additional courses on subjects related with ICTs.
    No work experience required
    Excellent knowledge of English for conducting research and producing documents (drafting and editing). Advanced knowledge of English for editing document will be valued.
    Knowledge of a second ITU official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) would be an advantage.
    Additional Information:
    Please note that a non remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same "conditions of employment" as a Short Term or Fixed Term position. Mandatory medical insurance as well as accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the Interns or sponsoring institutions, including travel expenses if any.
