The General Secretariat directs all the administrative and financial aspects of the Union's activities, including the implementation of the provisions of the administrative regulations on operational questions, the dissemination of information on telecommunication matters for operational and other purposes, the provision of legal advice to the Bureaux of the Union and the departments of the General Secretariat, logistic support to the Union's activities including conferences, the coordination of the work of the Union with other international organizations, the dissemination of information to the Member States and Sector Members, press, corporate and individual users of telecommunications and the general public. The General Secretariat is also responsible for the organization of world telecommunication exhibitions and forums.
Organization Unit:
The TELECOM Secretariat is responsible for the planning, organizing and executing of all ITU Telecom World Events. These events are major global information and communication technology (ICT) exhibitions and associated forums, and help keep ITU's Member States, Sector Members and other key players informed of the latest advances in ICTs. Through an exhibition for digital solutions, forum for sharing knowledge, and networking opportunities connecting nations, organisations and individuals, ITU Telecom World events provide a global platform for governments, corporates and small and medium enterprises to come together, power social and economic development, create collaborative opportunity and stimulate industry growth.
 Duties / Responsibilities
ITU Telecom is responsible for the planning, organization and execution of all ITU Telecom world and regional telecommunication exhibitions and associated forums. In this context, the intern will contribute to the activities of Telecom :To the coordination of Media Barter Agreements by gathering media kit information, updating databases, coordinating benefits and deliverables, gathering the respective proofs of publication and proof reading, correcting and/or online material related to media participation.

To the marketing and communications of Telecom by conduct research on media specialized in ICTs, their trends and participation in global ICT events, and building a contact list and conduct market research on ICT events, trends and activities. To the PR activities by researching calendar listings of events and ensuring ITU Telecom World 2017 is listed among the most prominent; by gathering and listing media coverage worldwide before, during and after the event; and by contributing to caption event photos into the Flickr account.

  • Qualifications required
    University degree under progress or University Degree or a technical equivalent in either PR, communications, journalism, marketing or in a field related to the responsibilities of the post.
    No work experience required
    Excellent command of English and knowledge of one of the six official languages of the ITU (Arabic, Chinese. English, French, Russian, Spanish) an advantage

    Please note that a non-remunerated internship position at ITU does not carry the same "conditions of employment" as a Short-term or Fixed-term position. Mandatory medical insurance as well as accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions, including travel expenses if any.
