The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) is responsible for the organization and coordination of the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector of the Union (the Union has three functional sectors: Standardization, Radiocommunication and Development) which deals mainly with development policies, strategies, programming, as well as technical cooperation activities (expert missions, training programmes, field projects, seminars, etc.).
 Duties / Responsibilities
Title: ICT/GIS Infrastructure Intern
Terms of Reference:
Learn and support activities related to the implementation of outcomes of Telecommunications Network & Spectrum Management Division. It will include and is not limited to assisting in researching and gathering information regarding the ITU Interactive Transmission Map, SMS4DC, and the Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting Switch Over (DSO); contributing to development of project documentation,
Conduct Internet based research and propose blog posts about Geographical Information Systems (GIS), infrastructure indicators and interactive dashboards;
Propose content and updates to the Map Application;
Provide support to the ITU TND Portal and coordinate related up-dates
Propose new ideas and presentation of content, statistics, graphics, training material and others.
Monitor content released by the specialized press on telecommunication and information networks
Assist in organization of internal and external meetings/events, which will include but not limited to reporting on the outcomes of the meetings.
Information Systems: GIS, SQL, JavaScript, d3.js
Good communication skills, good writing skills
Qualifications required
Undertaking Bachelor degree or a higher degree
English (knowledge of other ITU languages would be an advantage)
Additional Information:
Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short term or a Fixed term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.
