Organ:
The General Secretariat directs all the administrative and financial aspects of the Union's activities, including the implementation of the provisions of the administrative regulations on operational questions, the dissemination of information on telecommunication matters for operational and other purposes, the provision of legal advice to the Bureaux of the Union and the departments of the General Secretariat, logistic support to the Union's activities including conferences, the coordination of the work of the Union with other international organizations, the dissemination of information to the Member States and Sector Members, press, corporate and individual users of telecommunications and the general public. The General Secretariat is also responsible for the organization of world telecommunication exhibitions and forums.
Organization Unit:
The TELECOM Secretariat is responsible for the planning, organizing and executing of all ITU Telecom World Events. These events are major global information and communication technology (ICT) exhibitions and associated forums, and help keep ITU's Member States, Sector Members and other key players informed of the latest advances in ICTs. Through an exhibition for digital solutions, forum for sharing knowledge, and networking opportunities connecting nations, organisations and individuals, ITU Telecom World events provide a global platform for governments, corporates and small and medium enterprises to come together, power social and economic development, create collaborative opportunity and stimulate industry growth.
 Duties / Responsibilities
Terms of References:

The intern will be supporting to the organization of the SME Programme of the ITU Digital World 2021 event. ITU Digital World SME Programme includes online masterclasses, pitching sessions and Awards programme with the objective of providing visibility and opportunities for the SME community. In 2021 the SME programme is foreseen to take place online, so good understanding of digital tools and virtual events is required from the intern.

Main duties and responsibilities:
  • Organization and administrative support:
  • Assist in organization of online masterclasses and pitching sessions.
  • Assist in updating the programme's website with relevant information (SME and Jury member info, logos, photos etc.)
  • Create and oversee the smooth implementation and schedule for pitching sessions.
  • Support in monitoring the programme and the Awards application and shortlisting.
  • Assist in identifying winners and organization of the Awards Ceremony.
  • Support ITU internal coordination mechanisms and managerial tasks related with the previous activities, including liaising with staff across the organization to produce content, coordinate communication activities and participate in internal meetings.
    • Communication and marketing support:
  • Assist in promotion of the SME Programme through different channels including social media.
  • Help brainstorm ideas for campaigns and promotions to maximize SME engagement, and support with the implementation.
  • Support engaging new organizations, SMEs and academia with the ITU, including ITU membership opportunities.
  • Assist in the management of timely communication to Awards Jury members and SMEs participating in the pitching sessions.

  • Client relation management skills. Experience of working with SMEs and SME networks (hubs, incubators etc.) is considered as an asset).
  • Qualifications required
    Education:
    University degree (preferably a Masters degree)
    Experience:
    No work experience required.

    Experience (or strong interest) in the following areas would be of advantage: events and online events organization and coordination, project management, information and communication technologies, client relationship management.
    Languages:
    Advanced knowledge of English, written and spoken.
    Additional Information:
    This internship will be conducted remotely.

    Interest in international development and sustainable development issues will be an advantage.

    Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short-term or a Fixed-term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.
