The General Secretariat directs all the administrative and financial aspects of the Union's activities, including the implementation of the provisions of the administrative regulations on operational questions, the dissemination of information on telecommunication matters for operational and other purposes, the provision of legal advice to the Bureaux of the Union and the departments of the General Secretariat, logistic support to the Union's activities including conferences, the coordination of the work of the Union with other international organizations, the dissemination of information to the Member States and Sector Members, press, corporate and individual users of telecommunications and the general public. The General Secretariat is also responsible for the organization of world telecommunication exhibitions and forums.
Organization Unit:
The TELECOM Secretariat is responsible for the planning, organizing and executing of all ITU Telecom World Events. These events are major global information and communication technology (ICT) exhibitions and associated forums, and help keep ITU's Member States, Sector Members and other key players informed of the latest advances in ICTs. Through an exhibition for digital solutions, forum for sharing knowledge, and networking opportunities connecting nations, organisations and individuals, ITU Telecom World events provide a global platform for governments, corporates and small and medium enterprises to come together, power social and economic development, create collaborative opportunity and stimulate industry growth.
 Duties / Responsibilities
Within the context of the organization of ITU Digital World 2021, ITU is looking for a dynamic intern willing to join the Forum team, which is responsible for the design, implementation and execution of the conference programme of ITU Telecom World events. Every year, the Forum of ITU Telecom World gathers high-level experts from the ICT sector, including ICT ministers, industry regulators and company CEOs. The responsibilities of the position include the following:
  • Contribute to the coordination of the annual Call for Speakers by collecting, organizing and screening the submissions received.
  • Assist in the selection of Forum speakers by conducting background research and organizing it into speaker profiles.
  • Produce analysis, statistics, evaluation charts and status reports related to the Forum.
  • Contribute to the coordination of the participation of speakers invited to the Forum by collecting and organizing speakers' biographies, pictures and presentations, and verifying the suitability of the documents received. Liaise with Forum speakers by responding to written and phone enquiries to facilitate their participation in the event.
  • In the ITU Telecom database (SAP CRM), assist in maintaining and updating speakers' and companies' details, as well as the overall event programme information (session titles, descriptions, time and date, etc.). Contribute also to the maintenance of ITU Telecom World web pages by regularly verifying that the correct information is published concerning the Forum Programme.
  • Work closely with other ITU Telecom teams for the coordination and exchange of information concerning the various aspects of the Forum.
  • Support other activities, by, for example, contributing to ITU initiatives and the development of ITU strategy by producing briefings, content and background reports.
  • Highly organized, concerned with accuracy and quality of information, flexible, and able to keep a positive attitude under pressure.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and ability to quickly learn new software applications are required.
  • Ability to work well in a team and in a multicultural environment.
  • Qualifications required
    University degree. Degree in ICT-related studies will be valued during the selection process.
    No work experience required.

    Experience in conducting research and preparing publications will be valued. Advanced use of ICT tools, experience in using virtual event platforms and interest for the ICT sector would be an advantage.
    Excellent knowledge of English for conducting research and producing documents (drafting and editing).
    Additional Information:
    This internship will be conducted remotely.

    Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short-term or a Fixed-term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.
